O6 – Recommendations for using learning analytics to support the transition into Higher Education

The report starts with the identified learning analytics interventions identified in ‘O3 Literature Review: The Use of Learning Analytics to support student retention & success’. It is intended to be an operational document to help the project team plan the implementation of subsequent learning analytics work.

The report will provide recommendation on the design and development of appropriate learning analytics interventions in the transition from SE to HE. These interventions span a wide range:

– assessment (formative and summative)

– giving automatic recommendations and warnings

– strategies to steer students towards additional support (peer learners, learning content, and additional guidance through tutors) based on the gathered data, personalised interventions by student counsellors and tutors.

Special attention will be paid to the educational contexts in which these learning analytics interventions can be applied.
